Action Alert: Cancer and Integrative Therapies

Cancer and Integrative Therapies

Members Take Action to let our Representatives, our insurance carriers, and our medical community know that we are ready for the pivot to a wellness approach to healthcare.

No one is ever prepared for the diagnosis of cancer. Practicing holistic methods for her self-care, CEO Theresa Callard-Moore certainly wasn’t and it left her in unchartered territory.

In this article by Healio, Most patients with cancer want to discuss integrative therapies before starting treatment. Dr. Wayne Jonas, MD conducted a survey which “showed 62% of people with cancer wanted to know about complementary therapies such as exercise, nutritional counseling, massage and meditation when initiating conventional treatment. However, only 33% of oncologists supported this timeline.”

Using a ‘Whole Health System of Care (WHS) approach isn’t a new idea. The Veterans Health Administration offers these methods to our Veterans. The WHS of Care “integrates all therapeutic approaches informed by evidence and is provided by a diverse team of clinicians, well-being instructors, whole health coaches, Veteran partners, and complementary and integrative health (CIH) providers.”

To top off these findings…

The H.R. 411 bill was introduced to ensure that Members of Congress and Congressional staff receive health care from the Department of Veterans Affairs instead of under the Federal Health Benefits Program or health care exchanges.

The pivot to a Wellness approach to health is happening for our Veterans and if this Bill passes for our members of Congress and their staff. The time is NOW for the pivot for everyone!

What is the one method you use to keep healthly?
